8 weeks later….

I'm doing ok, I think. The first few days immediately following my operation were hellish. Like, wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, hellish. The next couple weeks got easier. Pain meds were my saviours. Now I'm waiting for my braces and trying to get my life back to some semblance of normal. It's weird. Some… Continue reading 8 weeks later….

See you on the other side…

So, my operation is scheduled for Friday. Yes, two days from now. I'm feeling quite calm actually. Maybe even excited. The procedure itself is pretty epic, but it doesn't scare me. The thing that's got me most concerned is afterwards. How am I going to look? Will I look so different to how I look… Continue reading See you on the other side…

Here we go…

I've been given a date for my double jaw surgery. And it's soon. Like, a month away, soon. I don't want to give specifics until I get closer to the date, as I'm a little anxious that something might go wrong or it might get cancelled. But yeah, it's so weird that it's finally happening!… Continue reading Here we go…

Next steps…

After trying an actual metric fuck tonne of treatments for my jaw, I've decided to go for surgery to correct my bite, which should ease (hopefully get rid of) my pain. But because I'm a special snowflake and can't do things normally, it turns out I've got to have the surgery BEFORE having braces. Usually… Continue reading Next steps…

But you don’t look sick…

I constantly feel like I have to 'prove' I'm unwell in order to be taken seriously. Like a lot of invisible illnesses, people don't believe in things they can't see. Which I kinda get. You can't see fairies or unicorns or leprechauns. Doesn't mean they're not there. (They exist. Fight me.) I have TemporoMandibular Joint… Continue reading But you don’t look sick…

Oh, Coventry. Home of awesome doctors

So. I've been taken on by Coventry Hospital's maxillofacial department who are going to perform my surgery and fit my braces. And man, are they awesome or what. Also, my dentist is a major rock star too. I've been seeing the consultant at Leicester Royal Infirmary for about 4 years, and have been seeing my… Continue reading Oh, Coventry. Stuff on the side (Side Effects)

So, being a chronic pain sufferer sucks. No two ways about it. No matter what kind of illness/disease/condition you are dealing with, there is a shit ton of other stuff you have to worry about. For me, my TMJD is triggered mostly by talking, laughing, smiling; all good things in life. So this in turn… Continue reading Stuff on the side (Side Effects)

Let’s take it back to the beginning.

I've struggled with my whole ear/nose/throat area for as long as I can remember. Ear infections, tonsillitis, sore throats: all on a regular basis. Every time I went swimming, I would get a really painful ear infection. Constantly down with bouts of tonsillitis too - I seemed to catch it as easily as catching a… Continue reading Let’s take it back to the beginning.
